The counselors at Indian Creek Middle School would like to extend a warm Panther welcome to you and your child. Whether your child is new to ICMS or a returning student, we hope to make this the best school year yet!
Meet the Counselors
Mrs. Suzanne Mask serves the 6th grade. She is here Monday through Friday.
Mrs. Rebecca Bates serves Teams 7A, 7B, and 7E. She is here on Mondays, Tuesdays, and alternate Wednesdays.
Ms. Glenda Cordy serves Teams 7C, 7D and 7E. She is here on alternate Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Mrs. Kathy Lee serves the 8th grade. She is here Monday through Friday.
Counseling Programs
The mission of the Guidance and Counseling Department at ICMS is to enhance student learning by addressing the personal, social, academic, and career needs of students. The counselors at ICMS serve students through individual counseling, group counseling, and classroom guidance. When deemed necessary, referrals are made to community resources. Consultation services are also provided to parents and teachers regarding concerns about students. Counselors also help students transition into and out of middle school. A few of the programs sponsored by the department include the Peer Helper Program and the Duke University Talent Identification Program. In-School Suspension
Lee Autry
The primary goals of the In-School Suspension Program are:
- To reduce the incidence of suspensions, particularly, those requiring out-of-school suspension.
- To provide an opportunity for students to learn how to demonstrate appropriate behavior by practicing decision making skills, communication techniques, and coping strategies.
- To isolate the disruptive student from the regularly assigned classrooms and school activities while continuing the student's progress with classroom assignments and providing individually oriented instruction when needed.
Speech Language Program
The Speech Language Program is affiliated with the Newton County Special Education Department. Newton county employs thirteen full time certified Speech Language Pathologists to service the elementary, middle, and high school population and the Head Start program. This program services children who have been identified with communication needs in the following areas: articulation, language, voice, and fluency. In addition to these areas, an augmentative communication program services the severely impaired children who need an alternative mode of communication.
