Georgia High School Graduation Testing Information

In order to receive a diploma, all students in Georgia’s public schools must pass the language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and writing portions of the test, earn 22 Carnegie units in a chosen program of study, and meet attendance requirements.  If you are unsure of your child’s status regarding any section of the Georgia High School Graduation test or his/her standing concerning graduation requirements, I urge you to call his/her guidance counselor.

According to state guidelines, students who have not passed one or more portions of this test have other opportunities to do so while in high school.  Furthermore, in accordance with Newton County School System Board Policy, students must pass ALL portions of the GHSGT to participate in graduation ceremonies.

We recommend that you begin studying immediately for each area that you need to retest as the test dates are fast approaching.  Additionally, students are encouraged to seek help from their teachers before and/or after school.

Additionally, we are offering the Big Blue Blitz Remediation/Preparation Program.  This consists of Saturday instruction to better prepare the students for the GHSGT.  Please contact Ms. Taylor, Graduation Coach, if you are interested.
