TurnItIn.com is more than a way to fight student plagiarism.
It allows teachers to post class notes, assignments, calendars, and links to
class web sites. TurnItIn.com also provides a peer editing option for papers
submitted by students. Each
individual teacher can decide how he/she will choose to use the available
options with his/her students.
Creating your profile:
- Log
on to http://www.turnitin.com
- At
the main screen, click on "User Login."

- Click on "Click here to
get started" to create your user profile.

- Follow the directions
on the screen. Be sure to use the
email address that you check regularly, preferably your Newton County
one. Choose a password you can
remember.

- Fill in the personal
information on the form. Use your
school address for security purposes.

- The
next screen will be a summary of the information you entered. If it is correct, click on "next."
- You
will then get the following message:
- "Thanks for
signing up for Turnitin.com! Your user profile, along with your new user
password, has been sent to your email address. To start using Turnitin.com,
please proceed to the login page and login using your new user
information."
- You are now ready to
login!
Login & Joining New Account:
- Login using your email
address & the password you selected.
Be sure to select "faculty"

- Click on "Join New
Account." You will need your
individual school account number and account join password to complete this
step.

- Enter your school's
account number & account join password in the appropriate blanks.

- Once you have
successfully completed the "Join New Account" step, you should see the screen
below. You are now ready to set
up your classes.

Adding & Managing Classes:
- Click on "add class"
- Enter the class name,
course number (optional), the password your students will need to login, and
the class level. You may also
enter a description of the class if you wish. Click on "submit."

- A
"new class confirmation" window will pop-up. It assigns the class a class ID &
shows the enrollment password you chose.
Your students will need this information should you choose to allow
them to logon to the various features available through TurnItIn.com.
- Your classes will now
be listed on the page:

- To
work with a class, click on it. The "inbox" for that class will pop up. From your class inbox, you are able to
create assignments, class notes, post dates to the calendar, see which
students have joined the class, select papers available for peer review, &
upload papers to the plagiarism checker.
You can also set class preferences from the class inbox.
