High ceilings and palladium windows in the main entrance foyer
create an open invitation to an exciting place for learning.
Oak Hill students and visitors walk into a two-story brick
foyer warmed by generous amounts of natural light and soft
colored floors. Plants and seating areas also help to create a
welcoming environment.
The administrative and guidance offices, as well as the media
center, are networked to the Newton County Board of
Education's computers to allow direct communication of
attendance, grading, pupil services, and purchasing
information. These computers are also connected to the
school's local area network (LAN) and to the wide area network
(WAN), which enables school-to-central office exchange of
information.
The media center has a computerized media management system.
This system provides teachers and students with the capability
to conduct on-line searches of media resources. The media
specialist can send cable television, videotape recordings,
closed circuit satellite broadcasts, and scrolling
announcements to all classrooms.
Oak Hill's classrooms are clustered by grade level, with the
south side of the building housing younger students and the
north side of the building housing older students. Each
classroom has three student computers which are connected to the
school's local area network and wide area network. This
enables the exchange of software as well as access to the
Internet. Additionally, each classroom has closed circuit
television access, a multimedia projector, and two-way communication with the
administrative office.
The school also includes two teacher workrooms, a
mini-auditorium, a large art room, a large music room, and a
computer lab. The gymnasium is located behind the main
building and is connected by a covered walkway. In the
centrally located cafeteria, breakfast and lunch are served
daily.
Oak Hill added 10 more classrooms to the south side of the
building. The addition was opened in August 2003. The addition
included a teacher workroom.
